Our General Information page.  We’ve put together the answers to some of the most common queries about production, construction and delivery methods.

Access and Installation

Our delivery vehicles are not suitable to be driven off-road. It is your responsibility to advise us at time of ordering of any access restrictions that may impede our delivery of your goods. If we are unable to deliver the goods or erect the structure the Company reserves the right to either: (i) Stack the goods adjacent to the delivery site or, (ii) Return the goods to the ShedSmart premises. The Company reserves the right to apply a re-stocking/ re-delivery/ re-attendance charge where applicable.

It is important to check for access to ensure that the panels can be taken with ease to the point where the building is to be erected. Please ensure that there is a suitable base for the garden structure and that there is sufficient space to be able to construct your purchase. To comply with Health and Safety Regulations we are unable to lift panels over fences, walls, hedges, garages etc.

You must inform us at time of ordering if the only access is via the house, is side access with height restrictions or is a covered alley way, so we can best advise with options.

All ShedSmart buildings are pre-treated with an industry standard preservative prior to dispatch. To prolong the appearance and condition of your shed we recommend applying a suitable wood preservative within the first month following delivery and at regular intervals, following all treatment manufacturer’s instructions. This will help keep your shed in great condition.

Whilst every care is taken in purchasing, storing and using the correct grade of timber for shed construction, timber being a natural product, does shrink and expand according to weather/temperature. Knot holes and cracks can occur during this process. This is, unfortunately, beyond our control.

All sizes of timber given are finished sizes after machining.

PLEASE NOTE: Overall internal measurements are 4″ shorter than those stated e.g. for a 8′ x 6′ shed, floor size is 92″ x 68″ due to construction techniques.

10 Year Anti-Rot Guarantee

All of our garden buildings come with a 10 year anti-rot guarantee. During manufacture we apply a water-based preservative.  Depending on weather conditions this treatment may only last approximately 3 months and will require re-application as soon as possible after construction.

In order to keep the timber in good condition and to maintain your 10 year anti-rot guarantee, your structure should be retreated at least annually. We would recommend a high quality spirit based timber preservative to provide added protection, particularly against the rigors of weather, and if used should be applied in accordance with the manufactures instructions.

The felt we use is new and specially formulated for use on garden sheds. Occasionally the felt can wrinkle: this is due to weathering/temperature changes and not to any fault in the product.

The number of windows in your shed will depend on its size, the standard number of windows is two and they will let in plenty of light.  We will happily fit extra windows at a small cost upon request. For greater security you may wish to not have any windows.  Just state your preference when ordering.

We use high-quality styrene glazing in some our garden buildings specifically our wooden playhouses rather than glass for a number of reasons:

  • Styrene glazing is 100% shatterproof
  • Styrene is just as sturdy as glass, however is much safer and more reliable than glass
  • Styrene is more environmentally friendly and economical than glass

The base should ideally be made of concrete, paving slabs on a suitable substrate foundation or our raft system. It should be stable, ‘square’, clear of any obstruction, no less than the size of the chosen product and most importantly, it MUST BE LEVEL. We are happy to offer advice, please ask.
